It was a little quiet at the March SMQG Sunday Sew It was a little quiet at the March SMQG Sunday Sewday. A few people OS or away with illness. Hope everyone has recovered and ready for this Sunday’s Sewday. Here is the March Show and Tell. Louise S- baby Quilt for a baby due in May The return of Nana Hilary - a baby girl quilt in machine sewn curves. And one for a boy using fat 1/4’s. With a superbly joined back! Catherine Butterworth - last of the 2020 fabrics follows on from Jiggly Mode - Square Dance. Couching with 3 ply perle threads Collection of baby quilts from Cath Midson- stash busting. Louisa - working on that bird pattern Louise S - Scrappy bits - orange ♥️ Julie is making a log cabin for home (rather than QuiltNSW log cabin challenge) but it might could go in the show regular. Helen hill made with the scraps from the QuiltNSW raffle quilt that we made last year - inspired by Harper hall (see December for info) Helen tait Jackie Gerring ? (Original president of mqg us) Bridges and borders - only modern quilt entered. Venice. 7 districts and channels and bridges Angelique - bag at Fairholme Quilters ! No binding - 3 pieces of fabric Helen hill - 5” charm square pyramids 4 squares- 2 lining 2 outside Trish - EPQ donated 350quilts last year . Sadly And all are used. New request for bright colours. Lots of fab show and tell and a game or 2! 🫶🏻 Helen Hill used Left overs from last years raffle group quilt based on a building Harpa Hall Reykjavik Steph - using up scraps - Jen kingswell - wendsledale Cath Midson - Bedford challenge same quilt different colour ways Anita- Aldi fabric - baby quilt Rebecca G 139 fabrics- only quilt she owns decorative stitch on binding. Quilted herself! Isobar inspired! Helen Tait - Christmas cards Jay: year long mystery quilt every 2 weeks subtractive or additive prompt. - so smart and so strong - Smong! - experimental techniques - online quilt community with Zac Forster Trish- quilts of love bits that were already made. Helen hill wool felting at atasda made into a bag. A couple of photos of the gang playing Christmas games
The Sydney Modern Quilt Guild meet today for the e The Sydney Modern Quilt Guild meet today for the end of Year Sunday Sewday. Which included the conclusion of our Negative Space Race Challenge. Members were encouraged to create a small quilt celebrating negative space, including the use of a minimum of 2 recycled elements. Congratulations to Sharon for Best use of Negative Space and Libby for Best use of Recycled Materials. Sharon used 17 pairs of Jeans to create her denim colourwash ombré effect, and the binding was made using backing offcuts from a previous quilt. Libby’s quilt was made using an old cushion and some old blouse fabrics. Anita, used an old pillow slip, 2 x tablecloths Helen H used a piece of scrap blanket, recycled wool felt, Trish used her husbands black shirt, white pillow slip from lifeline, and other fabrics from sewing basket Francis used green silky fabric from a woman selling off her stash and buttons and lace from lifeline. Helen T used fabric donated from Kate’s mum and a floral reversible skirt she purchased from the markets ages ago. A few reminders for this Sunday - the Christmas edition of the Sydney MQG Sunday Sewday… • Wear something christmassy • please bring a christmassy grocery item that can be added to the Christmas hamper to be won by lucky door prize at the end of the day! • if you would like to participate in a game please bring a small gift (wrapped up) to the value of $15 - new or op-shopped • and as usual something for show and tell. Don’t forget your Negative Space Race Challenge quilts We will be judging all entries on Sunday - There will be prizes!!! Also on note the Sewing Basket is requesting no cash payments when you are shopping there. Card only! And one of our lovely visitors - Rae informed us of a quilt project called Transitions Quilt Project. (USA) making quilts for people who are transgender. Louise Sexton improv curves Angelique Christmas quilt - machine appliqué hand quilted. London bus - love harreds kiwi birds, koalas - for sister. Rebecca G - reverse mini advent calendar - ever day add something from the day. And a Moth cape - 2 back panels and 2 moth wings There is a pattern but Rebecca’s surface design! Rebecca also told us of the Scissorman scissor sharpener - she has one if anyone wants to sharpen their scissors. Catherine Butterworth - wedding in mid December - back from Oregan - trapunto circles to be added. Clippy covers for safety pins Our other lovely visitor - Jay - own design, hemp base fabric, house mates bandana - dog chewed! Hand quilting. Knots exposed on back to archive process. Perle 8 & 5. Louise (I’ve probably posted the one she asked me not too 😢) lots of points Tara Faughnan- machine pieced. Natalie’s Baby Quilt for the same couple she made her double wedding ring quilt for ) made from a fat quarter box she bought 5 years ago. Helen Hill made this cross body bag from a Japanese pattern. Cath Midson’s cute little project bag from leftovers Alan shared his rotary cutter pockets made from the leftovers of his black and white challenge for QuiltNSW- he hates waste. (Not photographed by request) And Deni showed us her latest Aussie hero quilt. Unfortunately we can’t show you that either. Deni is a prolific quilter, often dying fabrics to get the tone or colour she’s after. You’ll have to come along to see them. They are amazing. ♥️🫶🏻♥️ Well that’s it for this month. Our next meeting is this Sunday (10th Nov) 11am -4pm at the Ashfield RSL club. This month includes our AGM starting at 2pm. Show and tell from the January Sunday Sewday - the Show and tell from the January Sunday Sewday - the first for 2024. It’s always a great catch up time. A favourite part of my month. This month we meet Lynne Stuart from Wisconsin, a modern quilter, visiting her daughter and family in Sydney. Lynne made a great addition to show and tell time. Some of us attended the Wendy Nutt workshop back in July last year. We were encouraged to bring what we had worked on to the January (and February) meeting, it was interesting to see them together, and encourage one another to get them finished.
