Australian Modern Quilt Show

3 – 5 November 2017

Petersham Town Hall, Sydney

Following on from the success of last year’s show, Sydney Modern Quilt Guild is proud to present the 2017 Modern Quilt Show Australia!

There will be three days of quilting workshops with international and national teachers, fabric stalls and a huge display of modern Australian quilts.

2017 Quilt Entry dates:

Quilts can be entered into the show between Saturday 5th August and Sunday 10th September 2017, using a similar online process to previous years.

Entries to the show will be subject to a jury selection process.

Successful quilt show entrants will be notified between 1 – 7 October 2017.

Announcements about teachers and their workshops, fabric stalls, quilt show categories and entry process will be posted on the website http://www.modernquilters.com.au/, as soon as available.

About the show:

Modern quilting has exploded in popularity in recent years, as evidenced by the eight Modern Quilt Guild chapters that can be found across Australia. Though there is no set definition of what makes a modern quilt, some characteristics include functionality, use of bold colours and prints, high contrast and areas of solid colour, improvisational piecing, minimalism, expansive negative space, alternate grid work and putting a modern twist on classic quilt designs.

The Sydney Modern Quilt Guild welcomes quilters of all ages, experience and levels of ability to come along to the Australian Modern Quilt Show and see something new.

Founded by the Wollongong Modern Quilt Guild, who held the first editions of the show in Berry and Kiama, this fourth annual edition of the Australian Modern Quilt Show is proudly presented by the Sydney Modern Quilt Guild, a local chapter of the International Modern Quilt Guild, based in Los Angeles. It is hoped that the show will be hosted by all of the Australian Modern Quilt Guilds in turn.
