Hey readers, it’s been a while! We’re currently elbows deep in Sydney Craft and Quilt Fair swag – our members had a lovely time shopping up a storm at the booths! Guild member Sue had her stand Fabric Garden in full swing, Narelle was working the Handi Quilters stand and Kim Bradley Creations was dishing out coveted Cotton & Steel (the first shop in Australia to stock it!), and pre-sales of Sarah Fielke‘s new book, Little Quilts, and a gorgeous new pattern! Guild president Lorena and our youngest guild member Sofia did demonstrations of curved piecing, Y-seams, and disappearing 9 patch blocks respectively. We also had four guild members take part in the jelly roll race, which placed second in by a hair! Check out our Instagram and Facebook page and see what mischief we get up to, and check out Sofia’s show-winning quilt!

Our naughty Social Media Officer published the MQG MM challenge rules to the wrong account blog- whoopsie!

Here are the MQG Challenge rules, the GWSG rules, and our progress on our challenge quilts!

There was such a great response to our Riley Blake Mini Quilts Challenge , we have to set up an internal Guild Challenge again. By all means if you don’t want to join our challenge you can do your own thing and just enter the MQG challenge. All financial members will receive the fabric, although to be eligible for all the cool prizes we will have to offer, you will need to follow our guidelines.

GWSMQG New Michael Miller Challenge 2014

This time we are doing “Skinny Minis” with a finished measurement of 16” width x 40” length. These are to be hung vertically, so make sure that your design works that way.

The top of the picture shows the six fabrics in the Michael Miller, Petal Pinwheels pack from the MQG, the bottom six Michael Miller Cotton Couture solids have been selected as complimentary fabrics. We have purchased enough of these fabrics for each financial member to receive an extra 2 X ½ yards of fabric. More free fabric, yay! This yard will be randomly distributed with your pack. You can add white if you want (not supplied), and you may also swap some of your yard with fellow members.

The rules for this Challenge will be:

  1. You must use all of the Michael Miller fabrics in your pack including your extra random colour.
  2. You may only add white or any of the other solids provided to members.
  3. No other fabrics or colours to be added if you wish to be eligible for the prizes.

* The orange/red colour on the bottom row is the same as in the pack “Clementine”, it just looks different in this picture. The name of the Cotton Couture colours are Dirt, Fog, Seafoam, Canary, Clementine, Kryptonite.

The MQG challenge is due 25/7/2014. We will make ours due by the 31st of August, which is a Sunday Sewalong day.

Here are some photos of our member’s progressing on the challenge!

This is Zoe’s finished skinny mini. She got hers finished way back in June, before jetsetting off to London. That’s dedication!
