Just a quick remind to RSVP for September’s Monday Meetup which will be held at Dooley’s Waterview. You can find all of the details on our Facebook Events page. Monday Meetups are held in alcove by the Board Room at Dooleys and are a casual, social meetup where we plan guild business and talk about what’s new in Modern Quilting.

This month’s theme is my favourite thread. Be sure to bring along an interesting spool or skein, and tell us all about it.  Speaking of thread, we are very lucky to have Aurifil as a sponsor for Monday’s event.  They’ve generously donated one of their Simply Color skein sets.  This set has 12 gorgeous colors of Aurifil’s 50wt cotton thread in colours that match Moda’s Simply Color modern fabric.

Simply Color. Simply Awesome.

GWSMQG Giveaway!

It’s been tempting to steal it! I feel quite lucky to have it as eye candy in the house this week. You may have to pry it out of my hands. Come along on Monday to win!

If that wasn’t enough, Kate of Kate Quilts upped the ante for us and has donated a Simply Color charm pack to go along with it!  Kate’s a member of our guild;  and she is always happy to answer questions about upcoming fabric ranges, thread and more. We’re lucky to have her!

Without pulling out the calculator, I can assure you that’s a whopping wonderful prize pack!  Those of you who were there last week know that Kate surprised us with a charm pack of Chicopee which we gave away at our Sunday Sewalong along with more Aurifil!  Thank you, Kate and Alex!

We know that not everyone can make it to each meeting, and we didn’t want anyone to be left out so we have five Aurifil thread packs which members can win by right here on the blog!

If you aren’t familiar with Aurifil threads, they have several varieties. Whether you like to hand piece, machine piece, hand quilt or applique; they have a thread type and weight to work with. These five spool packs are a great taster for you to try out the cotton in 12, 28, 40 and 50wt. There’s also some 12wt Lana Wool to play with. Colour in the packs vary, but all include at least one Aurifil variegate. (Apologies for any drool that I’ve left on the spools. I’ve tried to mop it up.)

Spool heaven!

We’ll have some on hand on Monday for you to have a squiz at. We’ll also have Aurifil cards with us on Monday night, so you can see the full range of colours!

On to winning!  It’s as easy as leaving a blog comment. You are welcome to leave a comment here letting us know of a fun theme for the guild meetups or you can leave a comment on Jenna’s member spotlight .   Make sure we have a way of getting a hold of you to let you know that you’ve won!

(One entry per person. Entries will be combined from both posts. Winners drawn at random. Winners will be selected on Friday Sept 21th, noon Sydney time. Please note that prizes will be available for pick up during any future guild meeting. We love your smiling face, so you must come in person to a guild meeting to pick up your prize.)

Thank you to Aurifil and KateQuilts for supporting Greater Western Sydney’s Modern Quilt Guild.

Those colour packs look great and I would love to try some. Just wondering for those of us not on Facebook how the Sunday sewing day went. Are there any photos?

  • I have been using Sulky Blendables Vareegated 12wt and now I’ve seen the colour chart for Aurifil 12wt Variegated I’m interested to try some of them so I’ve ordered some from Kate.

  • I don’t know if I’m considered a member or not. I was at the first meeting of SMQG last year but am not able to attend evening meetings either at Dooleys or City Extra! 🙁

  • I want so much to be there Monday night, but grand daughters come first. Have a great night, I will be going down to WMQG on Saturday.
A what is the weirdest tool you own and why would be a great fun night or afternoon.

  • I think a great idea would be a charm square swap / lucky dip, everyone brings in X amount of 5″ squares of their favourite fabrics, they get put in a box/bag and then we all draw out a new lot… We could even have a challenge to make a mini quilt or something with them? Just a suggestion

  • I think several of you already saw my ‘ugliest fabric’ tonight (hellooooo bison!) so I won’t suggest that theme 😉 I learned so much tonight from the thread theme, thanks to all who attended! Thanks especially to Sarah who brought in so many special and exotic ones. I think most of us are asking ourselves if we really *need* a little box of French thread…

I’d love to at some point do a swap/destash/giveaway, but it might have to be on a Sunday as I think we’d need more space per person than at the dinner table.

  • Hey, these little Aurifil packs look great to try the other thread types. I’d like to give the variegated thread another go, sounds like the Aurifil will be much better than what I tried before. I was focusing so much on Simply Color box I totally missed that we had more chances to win. Fingers crossed x
